The Apple Capital of Kashmir

Established in 1988, a vision that transformed Kashmir's economy

🏛️

Rich History

Founded by visionary grower Muhammad Mustafa in 1988-89, the mandi was established to end the monopoly of Delhi traders and empower local farmers.

🌍

Global Reach

Connected to over 450 mandis across India, exporting premium Kashmiri apples to Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, and the UAE.

👥

Livelihood Hub

Supports thousands of farmers, traders, and laborers. Around 70% of Kashmir's population depends on horticulture.

🚛

Massive Operations

60-70 trucks daily before peak season, surging to 250+ trucks during harvest, supplying apples across the nation.

The Story of "Chotta London"

Sopore, once known as "Chotta London" for its thriving commercial vigor, has transformed into Kashmir's fruit capital. The mandi was born from the vision of Muhammad Mustafa and his associates who fought against exploitative practices by Delhi merchants. After meeting Chief Minister Dr. Farooq Abdullah, the government allotted 372 kanals of land, later expanding to include a dedicated truck yard.

Today, it stands as Asia's second-largest fruit market after Delhi's Azadpur Mandi, and the continent's biggest hub for apple trade, handling 40% of Kashmir's total apple output.
